Hypoallergenic Jewellery in Kolkata | Made & Packed Here | Urban Rani

Location: Kolkata, West Bengal

We're a Kolkata brand. Every order leaves from here.

Urban Rani isn't a national brand with a Kolkata landing page. We're a father-and-daughter business based in Kolkata, and every single order is picked, checked and packed by the two of us here before it goes out. When you order from us, you're buying from someone in your city who knows exactly what August humidity does to a chain by 4pm.

That's also how the brand started. During pregnancy, cheap jewellery gave our founder painful rashes — and in a city this humid, that isn't an occasional problem, it's a daily one. Nothing safe existed under ₹5,000 that anyone actually wanted to wear. So we made it.

Built for Kolkata weather, honestly

Kolkata sits at 70–90% humidity for a good part of the year, and that matters more for jewellery than most brands will admit. Sweat is mildly acidic. On nickel-heavy costume jewellery it produces exactly what you've seen before — a green mark on the collarbone, an earlobe that itches by lunchtime, a chain that turns dull in a season.

  • Nickel-free, always. Nickel is the metal behind most jewellery allergies, and humidity accelerates the reaction. Ours contains none.
  • Anti-tarnish plating over stainless steel — built for a climate where jewellery is worn in 34°C and monsoon damp, not in a dry showroom.
  • Anti-tarnish pouch in every order. Air and moisture are what dull metal. A closed pouch does most of the protective work for you, which matters far more here than it does in Delhi or Bangalore.
  • Six-month warranty we actually honour. Message us on WhatsApp with a photo.

Jewellery for the Kolkata calendar

Durga Puja. Five days, several outfit changes, and hours on your feet between pandals. This is exactly when heavy jewellery becomes a mistake and when cheap jewellery turns your neck green in the crowd heat. Light, skin-safe pieces you can wear from Shashthi to Dashami without thinking about them — layered chains for a saree, statement earrings for Ashtami morning anjali, stackable bracelets that won't catch on your aanchal.

Saraswati Puja. The yellow saree day. Gold-toned pieces sit beautifully against yellow and basanti, and small hoops or studs won't compete with the drape.

Poila Boishakh. New year, new clothes, and the family lunch that runs long. Something comfortable enough to keep on all day.

Bengali weddings. Modern pieces for the mehendi and reception, and gifting sets for bridesmaids that don't need sizing.

Salt Lake and Sector V workdays. Delicate chains and small hoops that look right on a video call and survive the commute.

Where to shop

Kolkata has no shortage of jewellery — Gariahat, New Market, Hatibagan, Bowbazar. What's harder to find is the middle ground: pieces that look considered without the price of real gold, and that don't punish sensitive skin. That's the gap we fill.

Caring for jewellery in this climate

  • Last on, first off. Perfume, lotion and hair oil before jewellery, always.
  • Wipe it down when you get home — a soft dry cloth takes thirty seconds and removes the day's sweat. In Kolkata this is the single most useful habit.
  • Use the pouch. Especially through monsoon. Open jars and dressing tables are where jewellery dulls.
  • Skip it for the shower. Take pieces off before bathing rather than letting soap dry on them.

Questions from Kolkata customers

Do you have a shop in Kolkata I can visit?
Not yet — we're online only, run by two people from home. If you'd like to see something before buying, WhatsApp us and we'll send photos and a video of the actual piece.

How quickly does delivery reach Kolkata?
Usually 2–4 working days within the city, since we dispatch from here.

Will it survive Puja and the humidity?
Yes, with the pouch and a wipe-down after wear. That's what anti-tarnish plating is for. And if a piece doesn't hold up within six months, we'll replace it.

I react to almost every metal. What should I start with?
92.5 sterling silver from the CHANDNI line. It's solid metal rather than plating, and it's the most reliable option for very reactive skin.

Is it safe for sensitive ears?
Yes — nickel-free and lightweight. If you've had trouble with studs before, start with small hoops or light studs rather than danglers.

Can I order a gift set?
Yes. Use Build Your Own Box, or WhatsApp us on 7003408985 and we'll put something together — including a handwritten note.

Do you take Cash on Delivery?
Yes, along with UPI, cards and net banking.
