Is Urban Rani a genuine brand?

Yes. Urban Rani is a registered Indian jewellery brand founded in 2024, run by a father-and-daughter team based in Kolkata, West Bengal. We operate at urbanrani.in and on Instagram as @urbanraniofficial. We have been featured in LBB Magazine, The Door and The Republic. We hold a 4.74 out of 5 rating from 215+ verified customer reviews on our own store.

Is Urban Rani real gold?

No, and we will not pretend otherwise. Our gold-toned pieces are 18K gold plated over 304/316L stainless steel. They are priced accordingly — mostly ₹549 to ₹1,300. Our silver is genuine 92.5 sterling silver, which is solid metal rather than plating.

If a brand is selling "gold" jewellery at fashion-jewellery prices, it is plated. Ours included.

Does Urban Rani jewellery tarnish?

Gold plating fades eventually — all plating does, on every brand, at every price. Ours is anti-tarnish treated over stainless steel, which slows it considerably, and we back it with a six-month warranty that covers the plating.

Sterling silver can tarnish with air and moisture. That is a surface film, not damage, and a polishing cloth removes it in under a minute.

What genuinely extends the life of any piece: wipe it after wear, store it in the pouch we send, and take it off before showers and swimming.

Is it actually safe for sensitive skin?

That is the entire reason the brand exists. Our founder developed contact dermatitis from nickel in fashion jewellery during pregnancy and could not find anything safe she wanted to wear. We use no added nickel — 304/316L stainless steel and 92.5 sterling silver.

Being straight with you: we have not yet published independent lab certification. We are arranging nickel-release testing and will publish the certificate when we have it. Until then, our claim is a claim. That is true of nearly every brand in this category, but you should hold us to it rather than take our word.

Is it safe to pay on the website?

Yes. Payments are processed through Shopify's secure checkout — we never see or store your card details. We accept UPI, credit and debit cards, net banking, and Cash on Delivery if you would rather pay when the parcel arrives. For a first order from a brand you do not know, COD is a perfectly sensible choice.

Where is Urban Rani based, and where is the jewellery made?

We are based in Kolkata, West Bengal. We work with Indian artisans and suppliers for our collections, and every order is checked and packed by the two of us before it ships.

How long does delivery take?

Typically 3–7 working days across India, faster within Kolkata, longer for remote areas. Shipping is free pan-India with no minimum order.

Do you have a physical store?

Is it worth the price?

Depends what you are comparing it to. Against real gold, obviously not — different product entirely. Against ₹200 street jewellery, you are paying more for metal that will not make your skin react and plating that lasts longer. Against other demi-fine brands, we are mid-market and you should compare material specifications rather than photographs.
